Romantic Destinations

The term “language of love” often crops up in pop culture, for example when a moody, handsome Frenchman makes a cameo appearance in your favourite sitcom.

However, I love the language of love for a different reason. Learning a second language is something everyone should consider, but the ability to speak fluent French is an incredibly useful resource to call upon when travelling. There are 29 countries worldwide where French alone is the primary language.

Whether you’re currently learning with an app like Idyoma, taking a gap year to lend a humanitarian hand in The Congo or sampling the finest chocolates in Belgium; a language barrier won’t be something you’ll have to worry about.

So, now you’re armed with this invaluable tool, I’ll let you in on 4 of the most romantic destinations to make the most of it.

Romantic Destinations

1. Geneva, Switzerland

2. Cote D’ivoire

3. Monaco

4. Seychelles

A Day Of Tourism in one of the Most Romantic Destinations: Geneva, Switzerland

Geneva is a city of outstanding beauty, known for its fabulous architecture. If you’re travelling this romantic destination alone or otherwise, there’s plenty for you to see and do even after COVID. Within 6 hours, you could see the iconic Jet D’eau (a stunningly high jet of water on Geneva’s lakeshore) and take a tour of some of the most breath-taking religious and spiritual sites, including Cathedrale Saint Pierre

Don’t worry, there’s much to offer for you romantics too. If you’re visiting with your significant other, a boat ride to the Chateau De Chillon is an absolute must-do.

Erected in the 13th century, this castle has definitely stood the test of time and is revered in the area as a location of outstanding beauty and one of the top romatnic destinations of the century.

Now, the most important part… food!

It’s not all Swiss cheese and chocolate; there are legions of restaurants and bistros where you can indulge in all kinds of Swiss delicacies, which you can order confidently using all of the local lingo you learned with the Idyoma app.

Embrace Your Wild Side in the Cote D'ivoire

The Ivory Coast is renowned for its hospitality, as the locals have widely embraced the tourism industry as a means of boosting the nation’s economy. There really is something for everyone.

Whether it’s nature’s beauty you’re searching for or a bustling nightlife and interesting characters, you’re sure to find what speaks to your romantic side.

Here are a few places I’d recommend as a first-timer.

The Bini Lagune estate is an ecotourism site near Abidjan. Described by many who have visited as a romantic destination and a small slice of paradise, offering staggering natural beauty and the opportunity to indulge in a typical Ivorian meal on the lagoon’s edge.

After lunch, it’s time for a hike through the stunning wildland, or a canoe trip on the lagoon’s choppier waters (don’t forget to pack your lifejacket).

While the country’s natural beauty is something to behold, you may be looking for something a little different. Some of the most interesting people I have ever met hail from the town of San-Pedro. It’s an endearingly gritty port town, laden with exciting nightlife haunts and some fascinating characters who love to tell you a story or two in the language of love.

A fantastic tip to make the most of your trip while you’re practicing your fluency is to engage with the locals every chance you get. It’s true, they might struggle with your accent to begin with, but if you politely ask them to speak slowly and clearly, you might learn a few of the local idioms and slang.

Live the Life of the Uber-Rich in Monaco

Monaco is perhaps the most glamorous place on earth to live. Stretching just over two square kilometers, this tiny royal principality is home to the richest of the rich. Millions of visitors flock to the French Riviera every year to get their fix of the sheer magnificence of it all.

If your budget permits, a week’s stay in any of Monaco’s 5-Star hotels is the experience of a lifetime. Waking up to views of the Monte Carlo harbor and the smell of some of the world’s finest coffee is, let’s just say, not too shabby.

For lunch, you’ve the choice of multiple Michelin Star restaurants to pick from. Serving pretty much anything you could possibly dream of, it’s a culinary experience like no other.

Finding a souvenir to cherish for years to come shouldn’t be a problem. The glittering highstreets are Monaco’s most romantic destinations, and are laden with designer stores such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Balenciaga to name a few.

When you’re all shopped out, how better to relax than with a Super-Yacht trip out of the harbor, where you can indulge in some of the finest bubbly in France, while taking in the staggering views of the coastline. Not the worst way to cap off the trip of a lifetime.

Utilise Your French Vocabulary in Seychelles

The Seychelles Islands are the typical example of paradise, with golden sands and 5-Star beachside accommodation aplenty. There is no better place in the world to let your hair down and just relax.

If it’s a week soaking up the sun you’re looking for, then you’ll have come to the right place! However, if you’re the more adventurous type, there’s a whole array of experiences and activities at this romantic destination to get your teeth into.

However long you’re planning to visit for, no two days will be the same. From one day to the next you could be taking a dive into the crystal-clear reef waters that surround the stunning islands, then taking a hike up the staggeringly beautiful mountains on the isle of Mahe.
