Beautiful Cities to Visit in Italy - Venice

Venice is a city that needs no introduction. Oozing with old-world charm, the underwater city is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places on earth, and certainly one of the most beautiful cities to visit in Italy.

Venice’s status as a bucket-list city is well-founded. The must-do things in Venice read off like a receipt. The Grand Canal, where you can lazily float around the city’s canal systerm, the iconic Rialto Bridge and Doge’s Palace. The Basilica Di San Marco and Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute are among Venice’s most beautiful churches, while the Piazza San Marco – best viewed from the top of St Mark’s Campanile – is another must-see.

The main inner-city of Venice is small enough that it can be walked in just a few hours by travellers, but don’t fret, there are a myriad of coffee shops, bistros and cafes you can stop at to re-fuel throughout the day.

Beautiful Cities to Visit in Italy - Bologna

You were probably expecting this next city to be Florence or Milan, but Bologna is a stunning city that goes largely under the radar.

If you’ve ever played the video game Assassins Creed, you’ll likely recognise Bologna and it’s beautiful old-world mustard hues and medieval streets. It’s as if the city was built to feature on postcards and the Instagram feeds of savvy influencers. Easy to why I’ve included it on this list of the most beautiful cities to visit in Italy.

Famously nicknamed La Grassa (The Fat One) - Bologna is one of Italy’s famous gastro-centres. Known as the capital of the Emilia Romagna region (which produces Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, balsamic vinegar and Prosciutto di Parma), around every corner, you’ll find a historic deli, market, cafe or bistro; most of which have been in operation for hundreds of years.
